Mother Priest is onlyPriest's deck. onlyPriest built the list and the plan behind it: a Standard Priest that slows the game down with Shadow spells and big Taunts, then plays cards no normal mana bar can hold, under a mana cap Ysera has raised to 15. Of all onlyPriest's lists, this is the one onlyPriest rates the strongest.

The list

Standard, Priest, 30 cards.

Deck code:

Fifteen mana

Ysera, Emerald Aspect sets the stage before the first turn. Its Start of Game raises both players' maximum Mana by 5, so the cap is 15 instead of 10, and its Battlecry gains 3 Mana Crystals when it's played. That is what makes room for a 15-cost N'Zoth, Dream's End and two 9-drops in one list. The raised cap is shared, so the opponent gets the same room.

Zer'Ontu's pulls

Zer'Ontu is an 8-mana 3/3 Taunt: its Battlecry summons a 0, a 1 and a 2-Attack minion from your deck, and Zer'Ontu gains their stats. onlyPriest built the list so that each of those slots has a specific answer:

  • 0 Attack: Befuddled Summoner, a 0/3 that, at the end of your turn, summons a copy of a random enemy minion that attacks the original.
  • 1 Attack: Arachnathid (1/7, Rush, all friendly minions are Poisonous) or Tar Tyrant (1/12, Taunt, Lifesteal, +6 Attack during the opponent's turn).
  • 2 Attack: Crystalline Golem, a 2/5 Taunt with Reborn and "Deathrattle: Restore 3 Health to your hero."

No other minion in the deck has 0, 1 or 2 Attack, so while those cards are still in the deck, Zer'Ontu always finds them. Pulling Befuddled Summoner, Arachnathid and a Golem makes Zer'Ontu a 6/18 Taunt; with Tar Tyrant in place of Arachnathid it's 6/23. Either way it thins the deck of three bodies and puts four on the board.

The pulls also work together. With Arachnathid out, every friendly minion is Poisonous, including the copies Befuddled Summoner makes, so each copy it sends at an enemy minion destroys it.

M.O.T.H.E.R. and N'Zoth

M.O.T.H.E.R. reduces the Cost of a card in your hand by (5), and the reduction continues to the left and right with (1) less each step. Played next to the deck's expensive cards, it can take several of them down at once.

N'Zoth, Dream's End costs 15 and is (1) less for each Deathrattle minion you've summoned this game. The deck has five: two Crystalline Golems, Karov the Broken and two Soothsayers. N'Zoth's abilities then lean on the same minions: Mastery of N'Zoth triggers a friendly minion's Deathrattle twice, and Army of N'Zoth resurrects four different Deathrattle minions.

Shadow spells and the Blade

Twelve of the deck's spells are Shadow spells: Elder Word: Flay, Entropic Rift, Devouring Plague, Elder Word: Foresight, Slime 'em! and Dark Terraforming, two of each. Entropic Rift gets two more.

  • The Elder Words repeat: the next Shadow spell you play casts Flay's 3 damage or Foresight's discounted draw again.
  • Blade of The Black Empire is a 0/3 weapon that, at the end of your turn, makes the enemy take fatigue if you've cast a Shadow spell, and makes you take it if you haven't. With twelve Shadow spells and Entropic Rift's extras, it's a clock on the opponent.

Staying alive

The rest of the list buys time for the top end:

  • Board clears: Devouring Plague (Lifesteal, 4 damage split among enemy minions), Dark Terraforming, Moonwell (4 damage to every enemy character, 4 Health back to every friendly one) and Slime 'em!, which destroys all minions and gives each player a 3-Cost spell that resummons theirs.
  • Taunts and healing: Crystalline Golem, Karov the Broken, Soothsayer (6 Health back and a random 6-Cost minion on its Deathrattle) and Tar Tyrant.
  • The early turns: Lunarwing Messenger (Lifesteal) and Kaldorei Priestess (all enemy minions get -2 Attack until your next turn) both Imbue your Hero Power.

The other version

  • Zer'Ontu Priest is this list with Void Shard (4 mana, Shadow: Lifesteal, deal 4 damage) in place of Karov the Broken: one more Shadow spell for the Elder Words and the Blade, and one fewer Deathrattle minion for N'Zoth.

Play it and track it

If you try Mother Priest, save it as its own deck and log your games against it in the Tracker, so its record stays apart from your other Priest lists. You can look up every card it plays in the card library.
