Fair play
Lolumen is an independent site and desktop app for Hearthstone, Minecraft, World of Warcraft, Path of Exile and Rust, with League of Legends esports. This page sets out, game by game, what we read, where it comes from, how we read it and how we credit it. It also lists the things we never do.
Our intent
We aim to stay within each publisher’s terms for fan sites and tools. We’d rather work with publishers than around them, and we’re open to talking with any of them about it.
None of the publishers named here endorses or sponsors Lolumen. Their games, names and art belong to them.
What we never do
- Read a game’s memory. Nothing Lolumen makes reads or changes a game’s memory, or runs anything inside a game.
- Change game files. The only game files we touch are the Hearthstone log settings (log.config and client.config), which the desktop app sets so the game writes its logs. It changes nothing else.
- Intercept network traffic. We never watch or capture what a game sends or receives.
- Play for you. We never send a key, a click or any other input to a game, and never automate any part of play. The desktop app’s shortcuts only act on Lolumen’s own windows.
- Show hidden information. We only show what a player could already know. An opponent’s card appears once the game has revealed it, never before. Live games shown to other people are at least 2 minutes behind and hold only what both players can see, never anyone’s hand.
- Read your game accounts. We don’t use the account APIs of Riot Games or Blizzard Entertainment, and we don’t read anyone’s League account or match history.
Hearthstone
- Card data (names, stats, text, sets and artists) comes from HearthstoneJSON, a community project by HearthSim. Each build of the site is pinned to one HearthstoneJSON build. Our server reads that file once and keeps it in memory, and the pages and the desktop app get a trimmed copy from lolumen.com.
- Card pictures on our pages load in your browser straight from HearthSim’s art server. Some of the share images we make, the pictures shown when a Lolumen link is posted elsewhere, include card art.
- Rotation, bans and set names are written up by hand from announcements by Blizzard Entertainment. Each ban links to the post that announced it.
- The meta and community statistics are built from ranked games players track on Lolumen, with no names attached. Players can keep their games out of them in Settings.
- Your own games come from what you log by hand, from a Power.log you import, or from the desktop app. The two sections below say exactly how.
- Credited at the foot of the pages in the Hearthstone section (HearthstoneJSON by HearthSim, and the copyright and trademark notice Blizzard Entertainment publishes), in the full notice in the site’s footer, and, from the desktop app’s next update, in its Settings › About.
- Free: the card library, the deck reader, the meta, the tracker, the daily games and their 365-day archive (with a free account), up to 200 saved decks and the desktop app. Premium is the high-end insights on the games you track: advanced deck analytics, card performance, the community matchup tables and your whole history. Hearthstone is the only game with anything in Premium.Lolumen is free until the Hearthstone meta is built, so for now Premium is free too.
League of Legends esports
The esports pages read schedules, results and player profiles from Leaguepedia, and rosters and past placements from Liquipedia. Team logos are kept with the site. The event, team and player pages name these sources, and credit Leaguepedia and Liquipedia with their CC BY-SA 3.0 licence named.
- We don’t use the Riot Games API, and we don’t read anyone’s League account or match history.
- Some of our share images include champion art.
- Credited with the non-endorsement and trademark notice Riot Games publishes, word for word, in the full notice in the site’s footer.
- Free: everything. Esports pages need no account.
Minecraft
- Versions and patch notes are read live from the feeds Mojang’s launcher reads, and cached for ten minutes. For each patch note we show its version, date and a short summary, and link to Mojang’s notes on minecraft.net. We don’t show the notes themselves, and the pages ask search engines not to index them.
- Mods are read live from Modrinth’s public API. Their icons load straight from Modrinth, and each mod links to its Modrinth page.
- The Mob and Block daily games use names and numbers from PrismarineJS’s minecraft-data, taken by a script we run by hand and kept with the site, with its MIT licence beside it. Their tiles are plain letters we draw, never Mojang’s textures.
- Credited on every Minecraft page, with the notice Mojang asks for and the data’s sources.
- Free: everything.
World of Warcraft
- Mythic+ affixes, seasons, dungeons, score cut-offs and raids are read live from Raider.IO’s public API and cached. We wait when Raider.IO asks us to slow down. Affix icons load straight from Raider.IO.
- Classes, specs and expansions are written up by hand. The daily games’ tiles are plain letters we draw, never art by Blizzard Entertainment.
- We don’t call any Blizzard API.
- Credited on the World of Warcraft pages, with the copyright and trademark notice Blizzard Entertainment publishes, and Raider.IO named and linked.
- Free: everything.
Path of Exile
- League names and dates are entered by hand from Grinding Gear Games’ announcements, and the leagues page shows when they were last checked. We don’t read the league lists on GGG’s website or trade site, which aren’t part of its developer API.
- News: headlines, dates and links from GGG’s news feed. We never show the posts themselves.
- Currency prices are worked out by us from Grinding Gear Games’ public Currency Exchange history: hourly totals of what traded on the in-game exchange, read from GGG’s CDN as its developer docs describe, one closed hour at a time and never the hour in progress. Each price is the middle half of what the currency traded for over the last 24 hours across its Chaos, Divine and (in Path of Exile 2) Exalted markets, converted at each hour’s exchange rate and weighted by units traded, with recent hours counting more and markets trading far from the currency’s usual price left out. Past hours don’t change, so each hour is read once and kept. Currency names come from the PoE Wiki and PoE2 Wiki (CC BY-NC-SA 3.0), and the list of currencies and their pictures from poe.ninja, taken when the list was built.
- Unique prices are read live from poe.ninja and cached. We show the top items in each category and link to the full tables on poe.ninja. poe.ninja’s list of leagues decides which leagues both tables show.
- Player counts come from Steam, and count only the Steam version of the game.
- The Unique daily game uses the uniques most listed on poe.ninja when the list was taken. Item details and pictures are GGG’s, and the pictures load straight from GGG’s image server.
- Credited on every Path of Exile page, with a notice that Lolumen isn’t affiliated with or endorsed by GGG, and each source named.
- Free: everything.
Rust
- News comes live from Facepunch’s devblog feed and Steam’s announcements, as plain text: titles, dates and a short excerpt, each linking to the original. Images, video and markup are dropped.
- Player counts come from Steam.
- Wipe times are worked out on our side from Facepunch’s monthly update schedule. Nothing is fetched for them.
- Credited on the Rust pages, with a notice that Lolumen isn’t affiliated with or endorsed by Facepunch, and each source named.
- Free: everything.
Streams
- Channels, titles, thumbnails and viewer counts come from Twitch’s API, with Lolumen’s own app keys, and are refreshed about every minute and a half. While Twitch can’t be reached, the streams page keeps showing the last copy for up to about an hour. Thumbnails and channel pictures load straight from Twitch.
- Credited as Twitch on the streams page and in the desktop app.
- Free: everything.
How we ask for data
Our server’s requests to HearthstoneJSON, Twitch, Mojang, Modrinth, Raider.IO, Facepunch, Steam, poe.ninja, Grinding Gear Games’ news feed and Grinding Gear Games’ Currency Exchange history say who we are and how to reach us. So do the scripts that build the site’s data from HearthstoneJSON, poe.ninja, the PoE Wikis, GGG’s Currency Exchange history and PrismarineJS’s Minecraft data:
Lolumen/1.0 (+https://www.lolumen.com; contact: support@stacklumen.com)
It never claims to be anyone’s registered API client. HearthstoneJSON is pinned to one version per build, and our server reads that file once and keeps it in memory. For the other sources we cache what we read, keep showing the last good copy when a source is down, and wait before trying again when a request fails or a source asks us to slow down.
Lolumen’s read-only MCP server, for AI assistants, answers from the same public data the pages show: cards, the community meta, the leaderboards, the daily games and the blog. It needs no sign-in.
The desktop app
The desktop app tracks Hearthstone. It reads:
- Power.log and Decks.log, the logs Hearthstone writes in its own Logs folder, as you play.
- Whether Hearthstone is running, from the system’s list of running programs, so a game in progress isn’t shown after Hearthstone closes.
- On Windows, where Battle.net installed Hearthstone, from the Windows registry.
It changes two settings files, and only the lines it needs. Everything else in them stays as it was:
- log.config, kept with your Hearthstone preferences, to turn on the Power and Decks logs (~/Library/Preferences/Blizzard/Hearthstone/log.config on a Mac,%LOCALAPPDATA%\Blizzard\Hearthstone\log.config on Windows).
- client.config, in the Hearthstone folder, to lift the 10 MB limit on a log’s size. Without it, Hearthstone stops writing Power.log partway through a long session. The app leaves this file alone unless the folder is a real folder and, on a Mac, belongs to you.
Hearthstone picks up both changes the next time it starts.
What leaves your computer:
- Each finished game, sent to your Lolumen account: both classes, the result, who went first, the format and mode, the deck you queued with (its code and its name in Hearthstone), the cards you played and drew, the cards your opponent revealed, your mulligan, when it was played and how many turns it lasted. Each deck you play is kept on your account, private unless you publish it.
- While you play, once you’ve accepted the terms, a snapshot at each turn of what both players can see. It never holds a card in your hand, your deck’s order, or any card the log kept face down.
- Your computer’s name and platform, the app’s version and when it last connected.
- A deck from your Hearthstone collection, only when you choose to save it.
The log files themselves never leave your computer, and neither does each game’s turn-by-turn timeline. Besides lolumen.com, the app only checks for its own updates on GitHub and loads pictures from the image servers listed in the Privacy notice. Disconnect it in Settings and it stops sending at once.
The web tracker
- You can log a game by hand, as it ends. Only what you type is saved.
- You can import the Power.log Hearthstone writes. It’s read in your browser and never uploaded. You see the games it found before anything is saved, and only those games are sent.
- Signed out, your games stay in your browser’s storage, and we never receive them. Signed in, they’re saved to your account.
- The web tracker changes nothing on your computer. You turn the Hearthstone log on yourself, once, as the Power.log guide shows.
If you’re a publisher
If anything here doesn’t sit right with your terms, or you’d like to work with us, write to us at support@stacklumen.com. We read every message.
