Getting mods safely
- Download from the source
Get mods from Modrinth, CurseForge or the developer's own page. That's where the author uploads each version, and Modrinth reviews projects before they're listed.
- Match the loader and version
A Fabric mod won't load on Forge, and a mod built for one game version may not start on another. Check both on the mod's page. Fabric mods usually need Fabric API too.
- Skip reupload sites
Sites that rehost other people's mods are how malware spreads. A mod is a .jar file: if a download is an installer or an .exe, don't open it. Back up your worlds before adding mods.
